Jarvis Cocker is a British musician probably best known as the former frontman for the band, Pulp. He is currently (as in now through tomorrow) set up in the London Underground for a series of ongoing performances that are being streamed live on the Web. Interesting idea from a publicity standpoint, but from a design and web perspective, I’m more interested in the integration of the accompanying Twitter feed. I’m starting to see more examples of these across the Web and believe they’ll become even more ubiquitous as marketers strive to get more real-time conversations happening around their brands.

10 06 2009That’s right, a wedding announcement. And a Vampire Weekend song. All in all, this just makes me happy.

The Mother of All Funk Chords
2 06 2009Kutiman is an Israeli musician who has harnessed the full power and promise of Web 2.0 to create some amazing music. According to his site, he trolled through tons of YouTube videos finding snippets of performances to combine into original pieces of music. For me it brings to mind the sample-laden Paul’s Boutique album by the Beastie Boys. What’s interesting is how the changing landscape of copyright/intellectual property law, not to mention royalty payments, following the release of that album made it cost prohibitive for anyone to make something like that ever again. Has the Internet broken down that kind of barrier? At least not for the time being, and thank goodness–this is really something special. I particularly love the title track and “I’m New.”
